Wife of officer charged with murder in George Floyd's death, files for divorce

The wife of Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis police officer who is charged with murder in the death of George Floyd, is now filing for divorce, according to her attorneys.

"This evening, I spoke with Kellie Chauvin and her family. She is devastated by Mr. Floyd’s death and her utmost sympathy lies with his family, with his loved ones and with everyone who is grieving this tragedy.

She has filed for dissolution of her marriage to Derek Chauvin," the Sekula Law Office said in a statement Friday night.

"While Ms. Chauvin has no children from her current marriage, she respectfully requests that her children, her elder parents, and her extended family be given safety and privacy during this difficult time."

Chauvin was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of Floyd on Friday. More arrests and charges are anticipated, according to Hennepin County Attorney Michael Freeman.

  1. Fact check this please before you post it!!
If this is NOT true, you could be causing many people pain who do not deserve it.

  2. Just about every police officer, present or past, is outraged by this act. None of us consider it anything short of murder. The charge should be bumped up to first degree murder. He had plenty of time to stop. He knew he was committing murder. That continuation, in the face of people telling him what he was doing, constitute the element of premeditation. The idea that a murderer must plan days or weeks ahead to be premeditation is not always correct. Two minutes of premeditation are sufficient. If he ha pulled out his gun and shot the victim, a case could be made for murder in the heat of passion, but it seems to me that the timing and the number one witnesses mitigate against that.
