In the sunlit images taken on the grounds of Zarzuela Palace, the young royal showed off her newly lightened hair, with her rich brunette locks now accented by blonde highlights, styled into soft, flowing waves. Her natural beauty was enhanced with subtle, polished makeup including fluttery lashes, bronzed cheeks, and a glossy lip.
Sofia kept her birthday look understated, opting for classic navy trousers and a pale blue button-down shirt — a look that matched her effortlessly elegant style.
Although the photos were taken in Spain, Sofia is spending her milestone birthday in the UK, where she’s currently completing her International Baccalaureate at UWC Atlantic College in Wales. Since her birthday falls on a school day, celebrations are expected to be kept low-key.
What’s next for Infanta Sofia?
As the second daughter of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, Sofia is second in line to the Spanish throne. However, unlike her older sister Princess Leonor — the heir presumptive — Sofia isn’t expected to undergo military training. The royal household recently confirmed that “several options are still being considered” for her next steps after graduation.
It’s likely that Sofia has applied to multiple universities, with her decision expected to be shared in due course. She will graduate from UWC Atlantic College on 24 May after two years of study abroad.
With fewer constitutional responsibilities ahead of her, Sofia has a more flexible path than her sister, allowing her greater freedom in shaping her future.
