In celebration of their wedding anniversary, Prince William and Princess Kate have shared a meaningful update as they kicked off their visit to the Scottish Isles.
Through their Royal Foundation, William and Kate announced the awarding of two major grants aimed at enhancing community life on the Isle of Mull.
The initiative, part of the Foundation’s Community Impact Programme, will support local projects that promote health, wellbeing, and early childhood development.
Revitalising Community Spaces
The first grant will go to Aros Hall in Tobermory, where the ‘Rainydays’ play area will be transformed into a new soft play zone designed to foster parent-child interaction.
Local charity Home-Start Lorn, which uses the space to help parents strengthen bonds with their children, will play a key role in the revitalisation. The Co-op, a member of the Royal Foundation’s Business Taskforce, is contributing funds for the play equipment.
During their visit on Tuesday, William and Kate are expected to meet with the Home-Start team to learn how they’ve been using the Shaping Us Framework, an initiative launched by the Princess earlier this year. The framework focuses on building social and emotional skills in early childhood.
Supporting the Heart of the Community
The second grant will benefit Pennyghael Community Hall, where essential roof repairs and interior refurbishments will help preserve the space for future generations. BBC presenter and interior designer Banjo Beale, who lives on Mull, has volunteered his expertise to help redesign the space in collaboration with the local community—ensuring it reflects the island’s unique spirit and natural beauty.
Play and Creativity for All Ages
Further support is coming from The LEGO Group, which is providing creative play equipment for both sites. These resources will offer young children hands-on learning opportunities while encouraging imaginative play in safe, welcoming environments.
This latest initiative underlines the Prince and Princess’s ongoing commitment to early childhood development and community wellbeing—values that continue to shape their royal work.
