A 12-year-old student was discovered carrying a gun in his backpack at Middle School 577 Conselyea Preparatory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Monday morning, May 19, according to police and law enforcement sources.
The weapon was found just before 10:30 a.m., though it is unclear if the gun was loaded.
The boy has been charged with criminal possession of stolen property. No injuries were reported during the incident at the school on North Fifth Street.
