Camilla Will Officially Be Known As The ‘Queen’ Rather Than ‘Queen Consort’ After King Charles Coronation

Buckingham Palace has decided to officially describe Camilla as ‘Queen’ rather than ‘Queen Consort.’ The change, however, will only take place after King Charles’ Coronation in May, according to sources for The Daily Mail.

It will seal the set of remarkable transformations for Camilla following Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September. When she married the then Prince of Wales in 2005, it was widely assumed she would not be called Queen once he acceded to the throne.

This was because of her longstanding relationship with Charles, while he was married to Diana. Diana famously described the affair in her Panorama interview: “There were three of us in the marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”

In a 1994 interview, Prince Charles describes the marriage to the now-late Diana as “irretrievably broken down, us both having tried.” The couple was finally granted a divorce in July 1996.

Although Camilla had long been vilified by the public for being “the other woman,” she now appears to be a favorable member of the royal family.

A YouGov Poll shows that 53 percent of Britons approve of Camilla and believe she will do a good job as Queen.

The couple had originally met at a polo match in 1970 and began dating. Charles left to serve in the Navy two years later without asking for any commitment from Camilla. The next year, she married Andrew Parker Bowls, an aristocrat who played polo with Charles when the two were younger.

The two continued their separate lives until rekindling with an affair sometime in 1986. Years after Charles’ divorce and Princess Diana’s unexpected passing, Charles would consult public relations experts to create a media campaign to encourage the public to see his relationship with Camilla as worthy.

Today, Camilla is very active within the royal family and well respected for her role. Last week Camila launched the renaming of her charity from ‘The Duchess of Cornwall’s Reading Room’ to the ‘Queen’s Reading Room’ which dropped the ‘Consort’ from her title.
