Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa, the charismatic and beloved actor known for his roles in Aquaman and Game of Thrones, made a triumphant return to Saturday Night Live (SNL). On November 18, 2023. His appearance was highly anticipated, and he did not disappoint. Delivering an interview filled with humor, insight, and genuine charm.

The Norwalk highschool alum was invited for the second time to host the NBC sketch show. After first hosting the show nearly five years ago, on Dec. 2018. While promoting the first “Aquaman film”. 

From the moment he stepped onto the stage, Momoa exuded an infectious energy that captivated the audience. His towering stature, flowing locks, and signature beard only added to his aura of rugged charm.

As he settled into the interview chair alongside host Bowen Yang, a sense of humor was immediately established. He began by giving a shout out to his mum Coni and his home town. ” My mum is here, if you see her be careful. She is still recovering from giving birth to me,” the Aquaman actor joked. 

Jason Momoa’s mother, Coni Momoa, is from Norwalk, Iowa, while his father, Joseph Momoa, hails from Nanakuli, Hawaii. He is the only son of his mother, Coni. He spent his childhood in Iowa with his mother, but when he came of age, he frequently visited Hawaii to see his father during summer, as his parent were divorced while he was still very young.

After visiting Hawaii to see his father and cousins, he wanted to permanently stay, but his father Joseph, told him to complete his education at Iowa. However his father told him to come to hawaii as often as he wanted. During this visits to hawaii, Jason developed passion for the ocean, which lead him to consider a career as a marine biologist.

The Aquaman star recently created his Premium Spirit Meli Vodka this year, handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana in partnership with his best friend Blain Halvorson.

Yang, known for his witty and often irreverent interviews, struck a perfect balance with Jason Momoa’s easygoing demeanor, allowing the actor’s personality to shine through. Momoa stated ” The problem was even though I was born in Hawaii, I grew up in Iowa and not really, ya know, not really known for their oceans.” Momoa’s responses were refreshingly candid and often humorous.

He spoke with pride about his work with the Mananalu Water company, he also talked about how he wanted to become a Marine Biologist, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and environmental conservation. He also shared anecdotes about his childhood in Hawaii, painting a vivid picture of his upbringing and the values that shaped his life.

Jason Momoa’s comedic talents shone through in a variety of sketches throughout the show. In one memorable sketch, he played a gruff construction worker who finds himself unexpectedly paired with a delicate ballerina in a dance class. The contrast between Jason Momoa’s imposing physique and the graceful movements of the ballerina created hilarious moments that had the audience roaring with laughter.

Jason Momoa also showcased his acting versatility in a sketch where he played a concerned father trying to understand his teenage son’s fascination with TikTok. He joined the band Tate McRae, who recently found success in the music industry with her solo single “Greedy”, for a captivating rendition of their song “You Broke Me First.” Momoa’s powerful vocals and commanding stage presence complemented McRae’s delicate voice, creating a harmonious and electrifying performance that left the audience wanting more.
