In Minna, Niger State, a 12-year-old boy named Adnan Bulana was tragically killed by a stray bullet allegedly fired by a vigilante during an attempt to disperse suspected hoodlums.
The incident occurred in the Soje ‘A’ area as vigilantes sought to apprehend alleged miscreants. The suspects resisted arrest and retaliated by throwing stones, prompting the use of gunfire and tear gas.
According to local residents, the boy was running an errand for his mother when he became an unintended casualty of the clash between the vigilantes and the offenders.
The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the details of the incident in a statement released on Thursday, April 3, 2025.
He noted, “On April 1, 2025, at around 12:20 PM, we received reports that a yet-to-be-identified vigilante group entered the Soje A community to apprehend miscreants. During the confrontation, the suspects attacked the group, prompting them to fire shots, which, unfortunately, struck young Adnan Bulana.”
Following the incident, a group of local youths retaliated by attacking the vigilante office in Kpakungu. Police patrol teams were dispatched to restore order, and the injured boy was rushed to the general hospital in Minna, where he was sadly pronounced dead.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to identify those involved and ensure appropriate action is taken.
