King Charles appeared upbeat and relaxed as he made a rare public appearance at the Royal Windsor Horse Show on Saturday, accompanied by his younger brother, Prince Edward.
The 76-year-old monarch, currently undergoing cancer treatment, arrived in good spirits—sporting dark sunglasses and carrying what appeared to be a walking aid.
Dressed in a grey coat, Charles smiled and waved to well-wishers, receiving warm applause from members of the public gathered near the entrance.
A More Casual Moment for the King
The outing offered a more laid-back glimpse of the King, who has been limiting public engagements amid his ongoing health care. Despite the circumstances, he looked comfortable and content, taking in one of the Royal Family’s most cherished events.
The Royal Windsor Horse Show, first held in 1943, was a long-time favourite of the late Queen Elizabeth II. She made her final visit to the show in 2022 and had been a devoted supporter since its founding. While Charles doesn’t attend annually, he has joined family members at the event in previous years.
Side by Side with Prince Edward
Prince Edward, 61, walked alongside his brother, dressed smartly in a country-style jacket and tie. The Duke of Edinburgh was seen chatting with visitors and show staff throughout the visit.
Earlier in the week, Edward had attended the event with his wife, Duchess Sophie, as they toured the show grounds and met with stallholders. Their daughter, Lady Louise Windsor—who has previously competed at the event—did not appear this year.
Edward has long been a dedicated supporter of the Windsor show and other equestrian events, often playing a visible role in maintaining the tradition.
A Gathering of Royals
The Royal Windsor Horse Show continues to draw key members of the royal family, both as attendees and competitors. Zara Tindall, daughter of Princess Anne and an accomplished equestrian, has been a regular presence. Queen Camilla and Princess Anne have also been spotted at past events.
One of the most heartwarming moments from this year’s show came when Zara was seen embracing King Charles—an image that quickly became one of the standout royal highlights of 2024.
A Carefully Managed Return
Saturday’s appearance follows a quieter period for the King, who has scaled back his public schedule in light of his health. Each engagement is reportedly being considered carefully by his team on a case-by-case basis.
