The football community in Argentina is grieving the sudden loss of Enzo Pittau, 35, who tragically collapsed during a match and later died from cardiac arrest.
The heartbreaking incident occurred during a game in Machagai, Argentina, where Pittau was playing for Don Orione against Club Unión in the Chaco Federation Tournament. Eyewitnesses recall the shock and chaos that erupted just 41 minutes into the match when Pittau suddenly fell to the ground.
He was rushed to a local hospital by private vehicle but was pronounced dead shortly after, according to reports from Hechos y Derecho.
Don Orione released a statement expressing their sorrow: “With deep pain, we communicate the death of Enzo Pittau. We are shocked and affected by this loss. We appreciate your solidarity and understanding during this difficult time for our club and Enzo’s family.”
Pittau had recently returned to Argentina after playing in Europe, making his passing all the more tragic for those who knew him.
A witness shared with Diario Chaco: “I was in the middle of the match when Pittau fell to the ground as if he had fainted. I can still see it—it was very painful. Everything turned into chaos. People were running, screaming, crying, and calling for help. From the stands, we didn’t fully understand what was happening, but it was awful.”
Another spectator added: “I have this image of Pittau falling alone. I can’t get it out of my head. We’re all dismayed by what happened—this isn’t something we’re used to in football. It hurts deeply. Both players and fans were in shock. The match was stopped and then eventually suspended.”
Adding to the poignancy, Pittau had shared a heartfelt message on social media just hours before his collapse, writing: “The faith and God in between. Today we play with soul and life.”
His untimely passing has left a lasting impact on his club, teammates, and fans alike, as they mourn the loss of a beloved player taken far too soon.
