Iran has executed a man accused of spying for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, according to reports from the state-aligned Tasnim News Agency.
The individual, identified as Majid Mosayebi, was convicted of attempting to pass “sensitive information” to Mossad. His execution was carried out following a Supreme Court ruling that upheld the initial sentence, Iran’s judiciary confirmed via Mizan Online, its official news platform.
“Majid Mosayebi… was hanged this morning after going through the full process of criminal procedure and after his sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court,” the statement read.
Authorities have not released further details about the timeline of Mosayebi’s arrest or the specific nature of the intelligence he was accused of trying to transfer.
The execution comes amid a broader sweep by Iranian security forces targeting alleged Israeli espionage networks. Over the weekend, police in Qom province announced the arrest of 22 individuals suspected of links to Israeli intelligence.
According to the semi-official Fars News Agency, a police intelligence official stated the suspects were accused of “being linked to the Zionist regime’s spy services, disturbing public opinion, and supporting the criminal regime.”
Further arrests were reported Sunday in Kermanshah province, where three individuals were taken into custody for suspected espionage activities. Notably, one of those detained is reportedly a dual national holding citizenship from a European country.
Judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir praised the public for assisting law enforcement in the arrests, stating:
“These arrests were made possible thanks to the rapid presence of the population and their assistance to the intelligence services, law enforcement agencies, and judicial officers.”
In response to the surge in espionage-related cases, Jahangir announced that special judicial branches would be established within provincial prosecutors’ offices and courts to fast-track such cases under “extraordinary procedures.”
The development marks a sharp escalation in Iran’s ongoing efforts to dismantle foreign intelligence networks, amid heightened regional tensions and rising hostilities between Iran and Israel.
