James Middleton, younger brother of the Princess of Wales, is known for his love of the great outdoors — especially when it involves his wife Alizée Thevenet, their 18-month-old son Inigo, and their beloved pack of dogs.
But in his latest James & Ella newsletter, the entrepreneur opened up about a surprising hurdle he often faces when holidaying with the whole brood.
“Whether it’s a weekend camping trip or a full-blown holiday, travelling with your dog is so much fun. But raw feeding on the road? That can be a challenge,” the 38-year-old shared.
To tackle that problem, James turned his passion for pet wellness into a business solution: “That’s why we created our Freeze-Dried Raw – 100% raw, lightweight, long-lasting, easy to serve and store.”
A Brand from the Heart
Originally launched in 2020 as Ella & Co, James’s dog food brand recently rebranded to James & Ella — named after his beloved black cocker spaniel, Ella, who passed away in 2023. The loss was deeply personal; Ella had been his emotional anchor during his struggles with depression, and he credits her with helping him through his darkest times.
“I founded James & Ella, a happiness and wellbeing company for dogs, as a way of giving back to my dogs that have done so much for me,” he explains on his website.
James is now a proud dog dad to six pups: Zulu, Inka, Luna, Mabel, Nala, and Isla — all of whom feature frequently in his content and travels.
Family Life and Adventures
James and Alizée enjoy a quiet yet adventurous life in the Berkshire countryside, where they raise baby Inigo alongside their canine companions. But the family are seasoned travellers, too — from snowy Alpine slopes to sun-drenched Caribbean beaches.
In January 2024, the couple whisked Inigo away on his very first skiing holiday to the Alps. The little one was securely bundled into a Silver Cross sledge-adapted stroller, while pups Mabel and Isla joined in on the snowy fun. James, ever the resourceful dog owner, often shares travel tips on his blog for fellow dog lovers looking to explore Europe with their four-legged friends.
