Following order from Donald Trump, the United States military has launched a new round of attacks on Iran, this time focusing on northern Iranian cities and towns.
American forces yesterday attacked Iranian coastal surveillance stations, command centers, air defence systems, missile and drone capabilities, and more, per The Times of Israel.
Following the collapse of a fragile June ceasefire, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) launched its sixth consecutive night of intensive strikes on July 17, 2026, targeting infrastructure to loosen Tehran’s naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Bandar Abbas was also the target of the mission. This port city is home to Iran’s naval and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps barracks, and it is also the site of the country’s largest port.
This major operation is part of a larger effort to limit dangerous capabilities in key maritime regions and address regional security concerns.
According to military officials, the strikes sought to destroy specific infrastructure that supported offensive operations, with the goal of reducing civilian casualties as much as possible.
As the strike targets move northward, it becomes clear that there is a deliberate effort to breach defence networks that have long impeded international navigation and stability.
