British singer Jessie J has revealed that she will be taking a step back from the spotlight to undergo her second cancer reconstruction surgery and focus on her recovery.
The 38-year-old artist previously went under the knife for a mastectomy and, in May, announced that she was cancer free 11 months after receiving her initial diagnosis.
Taking to Instagram, she confirmed that she would be ‘tapping out’ from social media to ‘recharge, heal and process’ and spend time with her son Sky – who she shares with ex Chanan Colman – following an incredibly tough two years.
‘I want to start this post off by saying I am ok. I am not at my best but very far from my worst. I know people can twist these kinds of posts. It’s no secret that the last 2 years have been magical, successful, life changing and extremely busy,’ she began a lengthy post.
‘I have loved the last 2 years mostly, hated it in moments and learnt the most I have ever learnt about myself and what I want from my life and mostly what I want it to FEEL like.’
Jessie then listed a few things that she has faced in the last two years, including her devastating breast cancer diagnosis, as well as her latest album and tour, returning back to the UK, raising her son and going through a break-up.
‘Rightly so (it would be weird if it hadn’t. The past 2 years has taken a toll on parts of me that I haven’t had time to give space and grace to. Now’s the time. Work has slowed down. So healing speeds up please,’ she continued.
‘So I’m tapping out of this [world] for a while and into my real one. To give my mind, body and heart a well needed hug. To finally have my second cancer reconstruction surgery, to recharge, heal, to rest, to process, to love on myself and my boy, to water the next chapter of my life and most importantly be present and really live.
‘I never feel I can really give that side the energy and time it deserves when it’s needed while staying on socials and my phone so much. A digital cleanse it is.
‘I’m posting this for the people who would give AF that I haven’t posted or been active for a while. The people who have followed, supported, loved and cared on me and for me during this journey. Thank you for holding me up. So go easy in the comments serious Sallys.

Right on cue, fans rushed to share their support over Jessie’s decision to step back, with one replying:
‘It’s time to relax and live your best life for yourself right now. We love you and support you, stay safe and strong, that’s our (heartbeats) wish for you!’
