U.S. President Donald Trump sparked widespread outrage by sharing social media footage of a fatal zoo tiger attack in England followed by an AI-generated video of himself wrestling the animal.
William Chapman, a 24-year-old man who struggled with mental illness, was killed on Saturday after entering the Siberian tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster.
Footage of the deadly incident has circulated on social media, with Chapman’s family urging people to stop sharing such videos.
However, Trump shared a clip of the fatal tiger attack on his Truth Social account, captioning it: ‘Don’t ever mess with nature! President DJT.’
The video showed him playing, chasing, and play-fighting or wrestling with the tiger, set to the song ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ by The Tokens and ending with him hugging the animal.
Observers, critics, and social media users heavily criticized the posts as insensitive and macabre, given that a young man had just lost his life.
