The FCT Police Command has apprehended eight individuals, including a husband and wife duo, involved in a car theft operation.
According to a statement from the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the police received a report on April 19th about a stolen gold Toyota Corolla (Reg No. ABC 570 FJ) from the Federal Secretariat.
The investigation led to the arrest of Yusuf Yunusa, who was initially detained. Further inquiries then uncovered his wife, Blessing Yusuf, who was arrested on April 25th in Kwali Area Council.
Blessing Yusuf confessed to purchasing Toyota master keys from the Jumia online marketplace, which her husband used to steal cars, while she helped orchestrate distractions during the thefts.
In another case, on April 28th, police responded to a report from a car buyer in Life Camp about a suspicious black Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC E-400 (Reg No. AAA 07 KA). It was soon discovered that the vehicle had been stolen from Lekki, Lagos.
Five suspects—Idris Suleiman, Isiyaku Habibu, Ganiyu Sadiq, Idowu Akintunde, and Bello Muyideen—were arrested. The stolen car was recovered, and the suspects admitted to taking it from their employer.
In a separate investigation, police tracked down a missing driver, George Idung, and an unregistered Toyota Hilux Adventure, reported stolen by Mr. Chinwenze Chinaza.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives from Mabushi Division located Idung in his village in Eket LGA, Akwa Ibom State, where he was attempting to sell the vehicle. He has been arrested, and the vehicle was recovered.
All eight suspects are currently in police custody and will face charges once the investigation concludes.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, has advised residents to install tracking devices on their vehicles, avoid parking in isolated areas, and verify ownership before purchasing cars.
