U S. President Donald Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that he was surprised British authorities released on police bail five men arrested over a suspected Iranian bomb plot at RAF Fairford.
The suspects in their mid-20s, all from London, remain under investigation, Counter Terrorism Policing said today, as Tehran ‘categorically’ denied any involvement in the alleged plot.
Trump said he was ‘surprised’ the five suspects had been released on bail – adding he would ‘not have done so’.
An evacuation of 85 homes was sparked by five masked suspects acting suspiciously alongside the discovery of barrels of material found in the back of their three vans, which were parked 350 metres from the RAF base, in the early hours on Sunday.
Experts feared it could be a huge vehicle bomb capable of ‘massive’ destruction.
According to report, tests on the material found in the three vans have established that they are not viable explosives.
Evacuated residents have since been able to return though a cordon remains in place around the three vehicles, Gloucestershire Police said.
