A 25-year-old man from Kwekwe, Zimbabwe, tragically lost his life in what is suspected to be a suicide, after reportedly detonating explosives, leaving behind only his teeth as identifiable remains.
The incident, which occurred on Independence Day, has prompted a police investigation.
The deceased, identified as Talent Runi, was discovered in his rented room in the Mbizo suburb of Kwekwe. Midlands Deputy Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Fungai Ngawagare, confirmed the ongoing investigation into the suspected suicide.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms investigating a suspected suicide case in which a 25-year-old man from Mbizo was found dead in his room with his teeth blown out and blood stains all over,” Ngawagare stated to The Mirror.
Upon arriving at the scene, police officers reported that the room was soaked in blood, with only Runi’s teeth recovered from the explosion, suggesting the intense force of the blast. No other body parts were identifiable, further confirming the severity of the explosion.
Runi had recently moved to Kwekwe from Gokwe with his cousin, Tinotenda Tsvangira. After they parted ways in town, Tsvangira received a distressing call from their aunt, who mentioned that Runi had been contemplating suicide.
Concerned, Tsvangira rushed to his cousin’s residence but found the doors locked. Gaining entry through a window, he stumbled upon the horrifying scene—Runi’s remains and blood covering the room.
Items discovered at the scene included both used and unused explosives, igniting cords, and a box of matches, indicating that explosives played a key role in the suspected suicide.
The investigation is still underway, with authorities working to confirm the exact cause of death and the events leading up to the tragic incident. The community remains in shock as they await further details from the ongoing probe.
