Horse Guards Parade: King Charles’s Old Coats Stylishly Revived By Queen Camilla

Queen Camilla made a quietly powerful fashion statement this week as she stepped out in a repurposed coat once worn by King Charles, embracing sustainable style during VE Day’s 80th anniversary celebrations.

Attending a special commemorative concert at Horse Guards Parade alongside the King, Camilla, 77, chose not to debut a new designer look but instead revived a culturally significant coat from her husband’s wardrobe — a traditional Saudi daglah adorned with intricate silver embroidery.

The elegant wool and cashmere garment, designed by Saudi fashion house Yahya Al Bishri, was originally gifted to King Charles during a royal visit to Saudi Arabia.

Traditionally worn by grooms at wedding receptions, the daglah’s ornate design and heritage make it a standout piece — and Camilla has worn it on a handful of special occasions, including the 2022 Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace and the Platinum Party at the Palace during Queen Elizabeth II’s Jubilee.

This time, Camilla gave the regal coat a fresh twist, pairing it with a dark dress, a navy velvet clutch, and sparkling Van Cleef & Arpels earrings.

Camilla’s fashion choice wasn’t the only nod to wardrobe recycling among the royals this week.

The Duchess of Edinburgh also championed rewearing by borrowing her daughter Lady Louise’s bejewelled pastel pink headband for the VE Day balcony appearance at Buckingham Palace — proving once again that royal style and sustainability can go hand-in-hand.
