Rising British boxing star Georgia O’Connor has passed away at the age of 25, just two weeks after marrying her partner, Adriano Cardinali.
O’Connor, who captured gold for England at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games and later competed for Team GB, had been battling cancer since her diagnosis in October 2024.
Despite her illness, she continued to share glimpses of her life with fans, including a final Instagram post announcing her recent wedding and new surname.
O’Connor’s promising career included an appearance on the high-profile Claressa Shields vs. Savannah Marshall card at London’s O2 Arena in 2022. Known for her fierce determination and skill in the ring, she was widely regarded as one of British boxing’s brightest young prospects.
“We are heartbroken by the passing of Georgia O’Connor,” read a statement from boxing promotion BOXXER. “A true warrior inside and outside the ring, the boxing community has lost a talented, courageous, and determined young woman far too soon. Georgia was loved, respected, and admired by all of us here at BOXXER. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
