A Miami nurse is facing manslaughter charges after deputies say she took her hospitalized mother’s breathing tube out, claiming she wanted her to die peacefully.
Juansette Sabrina Green, 54, a licensed nurse practitioner with over 20 years of experience, was arrested last week following the incident.
Green’s mother was admitted to the hospital on May 5 due to shortness of breath, according to local reports. Green then contacted her son and daughter to visit their grandmother.
When the children arrived, Green allegedly said, “I’m pulling out,” and removed the intubation tube, according to her arrest report cited by the Miami Herald.
An alarm sounded, and medical staff attempted to intervene, but her mother tragically died. During the emergency, Green reportedly told staff to stop efforts, saying she wanted her mother to “go in peace.”
Deputies later visited Green’s home and spoke with her. She agreed to talk but refused to do so at home, leading officers to take her to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, where she was read her rights.
Green appeared in court over the weekend, where a judge ordered her held without bond at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
