Princess Maria Carolina de Bourbon, 21, has revealed she is “incredibly lucky to be alive” after surviving a harrowing motorcycle accident that landed her in intensive care.
The daughter of Prince Carlo, Duke of Castro, was rushed to hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after a high-speed crash in which she slammed headfirst into a wall while riding her motorbike. The incident left her requiring immediate emergency treatment.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, the young royal shared a sobering message alongside a series of photos—including one of her in a neck brace in a hospital bed and another wearing the helmet that ultimately saved her life.
“I’m incredibly lucky to be alive,” she wrote. “I crashed headfirst into a wall whilst riding a motorcycle and ended up in reanimation in the ICU. Surviving this was nothing short of a miracle.”
Maria Carolina used her post to advocate for road safety, urging her followers to wear helmets and full protective gear whenever riding a motorcycle.
“Motorcycles are powerful and thrilling—but also unforgiving. Please ride with care. Wear full protection, especially a proper helmet. Mine saved my life.”
She also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the medical professionals who came to her aid: “My deepest thanks to the outstanding team at Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace for their expert care during those critical days, and to the emergency medical team and first responders on the scene, whose quick and decisive actions made all the difference.”
Fans and well-wishers flooded her social media with messages of relief and support. “Thank God you’re ok!! Sending love and positive thoughts for your full recovery!!” one follower wrote. Another added, “So glad to read that you are well and safe.”
The terrifying accident came just days after Princess Maria Carolina was seen enjoying the Monaco Grand Prix, where she shared snaps from the event—including one posing with British F1 driver Lando Norris. In her caption, she wrote: “Grand Prix weekend recap.”
As she recovers, her message serves as a powerful reminder of the risks of motorcycling—and the importance of taking every possible precaution.
