Emem Isong, the wife of a pastor from Akwa Ibom, Nigeria, has sparked debate online after sharing her candid views on relationships and financial responsibility. In a bold Facebook post published on Wednesday, May 21, she asserted that men who lack financial stability and a clear plan for their lives have no business pursuing romantic relationships.
“You ever seen a woman lose herself trying to love a man who had nothing to give her but stress? I have. And it’s ugly,” she wrote. “She starts off soft—supportive, believing in him. But over time, the bills pile up, her smile fades, and her eyes grow tired from carrying the entire load.”
According to Isong, love alone is not enough. She emphasized that relationships require a foundation of stability, not struggle. “A man with no money, no plan, no discipline has no damn business chasing love,” she continued. “That’s not romance—it’s recklessness. What you’re really doing is seeking a sponsor, not a partner.”
She didn’t hold back, describing such relationships as burdensome for women: “If you can’t provide peace, protection, or progress—leave her alone. Don’t drag her into your chaos because you’re scared to be alone with your own lack.”
Isong warned women against settling for men who are financially unprepared. “If you’re lying next to a man who can’t pull £500 out of an ATM, wake the hell up,” she stated.
