U.S. President Donald Trump marked Memorial Day 2025 with a controversial and politically charged message on his Truth Social platform, launching harsh criticism at his opponents and members of the judiciary.
In a post published on May 26, Trump wrote in all caps: “HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE SCUM THAT SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY THROUGH WARPED RADICAL LEFT MINDS.”
Trump used the national holiday, traditionally reserved for honoring fallen U.S. service members, to reiterate his hardline stance on immigration and attack federal judges, whom he described as “USA-hating monsters.”
He accused the judiciary of protecting violent criminals and undermining national security by enabling undocumented migrants to remain in the U.S.
He also took aim at his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, calling him “incompetent” and blaming his administration for what Trump claimed was an influx of 21 million illegal immigrants — a figure cited in some media but not confirmed by official data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The inflammatory message comes amid ongoing friction between Trump and the federal judiciary, which has drawn both legal challenges and political backlash during his second term. Some observers have called the escalating rhetoric a sign of a deeper constitutional conflict.
Despite the online tirade, Trump is expected to observe Memorial Day traditions later in the day by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery and delivering formal remarks at the site’s amphitheatre.
The statement follows another partisan moment over the weekend, when Trump gave a commencement address at West Point while wearing a signature red “Make America Great Again” cap and a pink tie, praising his past election victories.
