On the May 25 episode of TLC’s Sister Wives, reality TV star Kody Brown opened up about the emotional fallout from his plural marriages, revealing that he lacked lasting emotional connections with his three ex-wives—Meri, Christine, and Janelle Brown.
The 56-year-old, now only legally married to Robyn Brown, offered a raw reflection on the emotional toll of the breakups, admitting that at times, he questioned whether he had ever truly loved them.
“It’s not about rewriting the past,” Kody told host Sukanya Krishnan. “It’s about the emotional space I was in during the breakups. I definitely went through a phase where I told myself, ‘I never loved them.’ That was how I processed the pain—it was the emotional state I was in at the time.”
His comments drew reactions from both Meri and Robyn. Meri, who legally married Kody in 1990 before they divorced in 2014 to allow him to marry Robyn, responded with a mix of resignation and clarity.
“He doesn’t want to admit that he really did love me,” Meri said. “And that’s fine. My big thing is—why not just say you did and then you changed your mind? Because that happens. That’s okay.”
Robyn, his only remaining wife, also weighed in. “To say he never loved them—that feels like pain talking,” she said in her confessional. “That’s not true. He used to tell me all the time how much he loved them. That’s bitterness, not honesty.”
The breakdown of Kody’s plural family began in 2021 when Christine publicly announced her separation. Janelle and Meri confirmed their splits the following year, marking the unraveling of a family structure Kody had once worked hard to build.
Discussing his current emotional state, Kody expressed how deeply connected he feels to Robyn, whom he spiritually married in 2010 before legally marrying her four years later.
“It’s like I found a higher love with Robyn, and then I got slammed for it,” he said. “There’s something divine in my relationship with Robyn, and people just b–ch slapped us for it.”
Now, Kody says he’s tired of being made to feel guilty for that connection.
“I love this woman, and I want peace in this relationship,” he said. “But I’m to the point where I’m walking around flipping two birds because I’m sick and tired of being guilted for loving Robyn.”
