As the royal family gathered on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the VE Day 80th anniversary flypast, Prince William shared a playful and educational moment with his sons—one that also included a cheerful Queen Camilla.
The 42-year-old Prince of Wales engaged Prince George, 11, and Prince Louis, 7, in a guessing game to identify the military aircraft flying overhead.
Known for his interest in aviation, William tested his sons’ knowledge as the display featured everything from modern fighter jets like the Typhoon and F-35 to historic World War II-era planes and the iconic Red Arrows finale.
Lip reader Nicola Hickling told HELLO! that the Princess of Wales was also involved, turning to George to ask, “What is this, George?” He hesitated before replying, “Errr that’s erm a… I can’t see it yet.” Louis then eagerly chimed in, “It’s my turn.”
George, still thinking, apologized before turning to his father and asking, “When should they start, Papa?” William reassured him, “It’ll start in a second.”
When George finally identified the aircraft as the Atlas, William proudly repeated, “That’s the Atlas, you know,” before leaning over to share the answer with Queen Camilla. “That’s the Poseidon, they are the air fighters,” he added.
Camilla joined in the fun, guessing an aircraft, only to have William jokingly reply, “It’s the wrong answer.” Laughing, Camilla said, “Are we playing this still? I need to try harder,” to which William responded: “That’s a UKMFTS, that’s similar to the Lancaster, I think.”
