Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice have always shared a special bond with their mother, Sarah Ferguson – and it’s clear that her influence continues to shape their lives today.

The royal sisters, often seen alongside the Duchess of York at charity events and high-profile royal occasions like Royal Ascot, Trooping the Colour, and the Christmas Day church service at Sandringham, recently opened up about the most enduring lessons they’ve learned from their mum.

Appearing on Lessons From Our Mothers, a podcast hosted by Cressida Bonas, the sisters reflected on how Sarah’s guidance has shaped their outlook on life and relationships.

“The fire inside”

Eugenie, 35, shared that one of the most powerful lessons Sarah instilled in them was about resilience.

“I think for me, it’s the fire inside, you know, the strength inside of you,” she explained. “And how to bring that out, and to pull it in when you most need it.”

Learning to collaborate – even in conflict

The sisters also touched on the importance of unity, especially during moments of sibling tension. Beatrice, 36, recalled a childhood squabble over a pair of Converse trainers, which ended with their mum encouraging a solution through teamwork.

“Mum just jumped into that fight and was like, ‘Come on, you can do it!'” Beatrice said with a smile. The forced collaboration, you’re slightly annoyed about because she’s pushing on a bit of a nerve,” she continued, “but that joy of the making up at the end was a big part of what she instilled in us.”

She added: “This sense that it’s OK to feel, it’s OK to push on those emotions, but you have to figure out what the resolution looks like as well. So she was very resolution-driven.”
