A piece of cinematic history from one of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ early film roles has just fetched a staggering $24,510 at auction.
The prison outfit worn by Diddy in the 2001 drama Monster’s Ball—a gray hoodie, black shoes, and a pair of jeans with one pant leg cut off—was sold by GWS Auctions on June 7 after 49 competitive bids.
The costume appeared in pivotal early scenes of the film, where Diddy played Lawrence Musgrove, a man on Death Row whose storyline sets the emotional tone for the rest of the movie.
Included with the outfit was a production tag from the film’s wardrobe department, documenting which scenes the costume appeared in—further boosting its value for collectors.
The timing of the sale is particularly striking, as the music mogul is currently embroiled in multiple federal investigations involving sex trafficking and racketeering. While Diddy now wears a very different kind of prison attire amid his legal woes, none of his real-life incarceration outfits have surfaced for sale—yet.
Still, given the five-figure price tag this film costume just brought in, collectors might already be eyeing what the future could hold for more controversial memorabilia.
