President Donald Trump revealed on Friday that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week in Alaska.
The president posted the news on his Truth Social social media platform, confirming that the meeting would take place on Friday, August 15.
‘The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska,’ Trump wrote. ‘Further details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter!’
Earlier Friday, Trump spoke to reporters about his attempts to end the war between Ukraine and Russia, saying he would start by meeting with Putin.
The president confirmed that some negotiations on territory in Ukraine would need to take place to end the war that has lasted three and a half years.
‘It’s complicated, nothing easy,’ he previewed. ‘It’s very complicated but we’re going to get some back and we’re going to get some switched.’
Trump said his focus was on ending the war and ‘saving lives.’
‘I think if we didn’t come, Ukraine and Russia would have ended up being a World War, and I stopped that,’ he said.
The show-down will be the first face-to-face meeting between the leaders of Russia and the United States since former President Joe Biden met with Putin in 2021.
