Finnish President Alexander Stubb who was one of the attendees has warned that Putin is ‘not to be trusted’ in an interview following talks at the White House.

‘We will see if Putin has the courage to come to such a meeting,’ he said.

Ukraine has attempted to appeal to Trump by promising to buy up to $100 billion of US weapons financed by European allies as part of a bid to obtain security guarantees, according to a document.

The document, seen by the Financial Times, says there could also be a $50 billion deal to make drones using Ukrainian companies.

The proposals were shared with European allies ahead of the meeting with Trump today, sources suggest.

It also says Ukraine will not agree to any territorial concessions to Russia and will reject Putin’s proposal to Trump that the frontline could be frozen if Ukraine withdraws its troops from Donetsk and Luhansk.

This is because Ukraine thinks Putin will ‘a foothold for a further and rapid advance of Russian forces towards the city of Dnipro’.

The document argues Russia is not serious about its desires for peace and that it should receive compensation following Russia’s full-scale invasion of its territory. This could be paid for with frozen Russian assets.
