Vivian Alexandra Spohr, a manager and wife of German aviation company Lufthana’s CEO Carsten Spohr ran over and killed a 24-year-old nanny in Sardinia.
The woman identified as Gaia Costa died after the SUV struck her as she crossed the road on a zebra crossing in Porto Cervo on Tuesday.
CCTV reportedly captured Ms Costa crossing the street, before noticing an SUV approaching her.
She made effort to stop it with a wave of her hand but was knocked to the ground and banged her head.
Emergency services spent more than 20 minutes at the scene trying to revive Gaia, but was knocked to the ground and banged her head and died at the scene.
Vivian, 51, is being investigated for negligent homicide in road traffic. She subsequently underwent alcohol and drug tests, but they were negative.
The CEO’s wife has flown back home to Germany as the prosecutor registered her as a suspect.
Vivian’s lawyers said in a statement: ‘Vivian Spohr, who was involved in the tragic death, expresses her dismay and deep regret over this very serious accident.’
