As we wake up to the euphoria of love and it’s tingling sensations we will love to take you through royals who made sacrifices for love sake.

Love, they say is a choice and sometimes it could be tough to make those decisions. Last month at the start of a new decade, we recoiled at the news of the Sussex’s resignation from Royal duties where Prince Harry confessed to making a tough decision for the safety of his family, especially after seeing the circumstances that surrounded his mother’s death, Diana.

The Queen’s husband also made a choice after the war,  when he was granted permission by George VI to marry Elizabeth. Before the official announcement of their engagement in July 1947, he abandoned his Greek and Danish royal titles, became a naturalised British subject, and adopted his maternal grandparents’ surname Mountbatten. He married Elizabeth on 20 November 1947. Just before the wedding, he was created Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich. Philip left active military service when Elizabeth became queen in 1952, having reached the rank of commander, and was formally made a British prince in 1957.

King Edward VIII stated in his statement;

“I have found it impossible to carry the heavy burden of responsibility and to discharge my duties as king as I would wish to do without the help and support of the woman I love,”

The eldest child of the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George V and Queen Mary, became king on his father’s death and proposed to a two- time divorcee, Wallis Simpson, an American.

He abdicated and his younger brother became King in his stead.

Also in Japan, female royals forfeited the throne for love with commoners. Princess Mako of Japan in 2017, she declined her right to the throne in favour of marrying commoner Kei Komuroand following Princess Sayako-the only daughter of Emperor Akihito who also gave up her Royal rights for love.

King Carol II also known as the Manipulative King became king after the death of his grand-uncle in 1914. He married Zizi Lambrino, Princess Helen of Greece and Denmark, daughter of King Constantine I of Greece and had an affair with Magda Lupescu. Years after he renounced the throne in1925 and married her.
