In 2018, the couple visited New Zealand on a tour starting from the Government House in Wellington, where they greeted performers with the traditional touching of nose and forehead, then joining prime minister Jacinda Ardern for a reception at the Auckland War Memorial Museum where they met young people who are making a contribution to the wellbeing of their communities in New Zealand, and enjoyed cultural performances and entertainment by members of the Pasifika community living in Auckland.
The Treaty of Waitangi between Queen Victoria and Māori was signed in 1840, and as a result, the British sovereign became New Zealand’s head of state as such members of the British royal family unfailing make stops and tours to the country. Other royals to have visited were Prince Charles and Princess Diana in 1983 taking 9 months old William along with them. Also, Prince William and Kate Middleton, 31 years after took the trip this time with Prince George in 2014- a year after his birth.
