Hilda Baci Has Beat The World Guinness Record Of The Longest Cooking Marathon In The World

Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey popularly known as Hilda Baci on Monday night set a brand-new Guinness World Record of 100 hours for the longest cooking time by an individual as she ended her cooking marathon.

Hilda Baci had early Monday morning broken the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual cook.

By 08:32am on Monday, Hilda Baci had cooked for 88 hours and 32 minutes to equal the record which was previously set by an Indian chef, Lata Tondon.

Tondon on her own part had achieved the feat after cooking for 87 hours, 45 minutes and 00 secs back in the year 2019.

Hilda carried on despite having broken the record as she stated that she planned to cook for 96 hours, thereby setting a new world record as the first human on earth to spend such an amount of time cooking.

The Nigerian chef, however, made a U-turn at 4pm as she disclosed that she was fully ready to reach 100 hours of marathon cooking.

She never relented on her vision to set a new record and at exactly 8pm on Monday, she reached 100 hours of marathon cooking.

She had actually launched into the competition on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at exactly 4pm when she put on her cooker.

The Cookathon has garnered attention both online and at the physical venue where celebrities have been trooping in to support the chef.

Also, the lead pastor of Harvesters International Christian Centre in Lagos, Bolaji Idowu and actor, Charles Okocha amongst others visited the chef.

Baci is not new to cooking competitions, she was a participant in the maiden edition of the Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021.

The highly talented 27-year-old chef made Nigeria proud by winning the competition and walking away with a grand prize of $5000.

On Sunday, Nigeria’s President-elect, Bola Tinubu, drummed his support for chef Hilda Baci by joining her Instagram live video. Tinubu commented, “IDAN doesn’t break, she breaks records. We’re rooting for you, Hilda.”

The screenshot of the Instagram Live was shared on Tinubu’s Instagram story on Sunday.

‘Idan’ is a trending slang on social media, used to hail someone with exceptional capabilities and prowess.

Also, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, paid a special visit to the venue of the cook-a-thon to celebrate and commend the talented chef.

Several Nigerian celebrities such as Tiwa Savage, Spyro, and Banky-W among others have also visited the venue to encourage the chef.

Nigerians who have made it to the list of those in the Guinness World Records include Stephen Keshi, Vincent Okezie, Fela Kuti, Blessing Okagbere, and Wizkid.

Earlier this year in February, a 16-year-old Nigerian senior secondary school student, Gbenga Ezekiel, made it to the Guinness World Record for the most skips in a minute on one leg.

Similarly, 23 years old Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, made it to the Guinness World Records with his hit song ‘Calm Down’ earlier this month
