Princess Marie of Denmark marked her 49th birthday on Thursday with a heartwarming new portrait featuring a special companion—her beloved Bichon Frise, Cerise (French for “Cherry”).
Shared on the Danish royal family’s official Instagram, the striking image, captured by photographer Lars H. Laursen, showcases the princess seated on an outdoor stone staircase, elegantly crossing one leg over the other. With a radiant smile, she rests her head on one hand while Cerise sits obediently beside her, adding an extra touch of charm to the moment.
For the celebratory shoot, Marie embraced springtime elegance in a flowing, long-sleeved dress adorned with vibrant floral patterns. She completed her look with suede rattan wedges and wore her brunette locks in soft, loose waves swept to one side.

The accompanying caption read: “Her Royal Highness Princess Marie has a birthday and turns 49 today.” Well-wishes quickly poured in from royal fans, with comments such as, “Congratulations to our beautiful and talented princess,” and “Happy Birthday from Australia!”
A Life Abroad with Prince Joachim
Born in France, Princess Marie shares two children, Count Henrik and Countess Athena, with her husband, Prince Joachim. Joachim also has two older sons, Count Nikolai, 24, and Count Felix, 22, from his previous marriage to Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg.
The family currently resides in the United States, where Joachim works at the Danish Embassy in Washington, D.C. His role focuses on strengthening Denmark’s defense industrial cooperation with the U.S. and Canada.
Before moving stateside, the couple was based in France, where Joachim previously held a diplomatic position at the Danish Embassy in Paris.
