Prince Harry is back to the U.S. without his wife Meghan Markle and children to speak about ‘getting disruption right’ at the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting this morning.
His visit to New York comes in less than a month after starting his new life in Britain.
In a highly charged speech, Prince Harry warned of the profound risks of AI’s impact on young people, describing it as the ‘ultimate sycophant’ trying to ‘enter relationships.
He accused firms behind AI chatbots and social media of ‘distancing themselves from responsibilities for the systems they built’ and instead ‘blaming parents and children’.
He continued that the new AI companion models were trying to ‘find you, hook you, exploit you, break and then blame you, pretend to fix you and use you more’ – adding that chatbots were now even more dangerous to young people than social media.
In an impassioned speech – which was cut short after seven minutes due to technical problems – Harry claimed AI is ‘reaching and being tested on children on every day’.
The duke added: ‘While we weaken ourselves from within, our adversaries do not need to invent new ways to divide us. We are doing some of their work for them.’
Moreso, The father-of-two referred to Meta agreeing to pay up to £13billion to settle a child harm lawsuit last month, and of countries bringing in social media restrictions for children.
He said: ‘Bans, settlements and payouts are incomplete remedies. Bans do nothing to address dangerous design. Companies paying huge sums to settle lawsuits can earn that money back in days. That is not accountability for two decades of harm.’
