Prince William And Princess Kate are set for a lighthearted rivalry this Saturday as England takes on Wales in the final round of the 2025 Six Nations Championship.
With Prince William serving as Patron of the Welsh Rugby Union and Princess Kate as Patron of the Rugby Football Union, the royal couple will be cheering for opposing teams at the much-anticipated match.
The game will take place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 4:45 pm. Before the action begins, William and Kate will meet with injured players supported by the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust inside the Sir Tasker Watkins Suite.
This special space at the stadium provides a dedicated area for injured players and their families to gather before matches.
Founded in 1972, the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust focuses on education, social, and sporting initiatives, with its primary mission being to support players who have suffered severe injuries while playing rugby in Wales. The charity invites injured players to every Wales home game and hosts an annual “Family Day” to bring them together with their loved ones.
Kate, 43, became Patron of England’s Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League in 2022, a role previously held by Prince Harry. William, meanwhile, has served as Patron of the Welsh Rugby Union since 2016.
In February, Kate publicly showed her support for England’s team, sharing a rare personal message ahead of their opening Six Nations match. In a social media post, she wrote: “Good luck to Steve, Maro, and everyone involved with @englandrugby for your opening game of @sixnationsrugby against Ireland. C.”
Rugby has long been a part of Kate’s life. Her sister, Pippa Middleton, once revealed in a Vanity Fair interview that the sport was a major family tradition, especially international matches that turned into social occasions.
The couple’s love for rugby has been passed down to their youngest son, Prince Louis. During a visit to Twickenham Stadium in 2022, Kate shared that both Prince George and Prince Louis are keen rugby players, joking that “Louis is kamikaze, we’re worried about when he gets older—he’ll be in the middle of everything.” Players laughed at her remark, with rugby star Sarah Hunter responding: “That’s perfect!”
