Several people were injured on Monday, May 26, when a car drove into a crowd of Liverpool fans celebrating the club’s Premier League title during a trophy parade.
Emergency services were called to Water Street in Liverpool city centre just after 6 p.m. after reports of a vehicle colliding with pedestrians. Thousands had gathered to celebrate Liverpool FC’s victory, which was secured the day before.
According to police, the car drove through the crowd while honking and then stopped. A man was detained at the scene. Multiple injuries were reported.
A police statement said: “We are currently responding to reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre. We were contacted shortly after 6 p.m. following reports that a car collided with several pedestrians on Water Street. The vehicle stopped and a male has been detained. Emergency services remain on site, and updates will be provided.”
Liverpool City Council confirmed they are working closely with Merseyside Police and promised further updates.
North West Ambulance Service stated: “We are supporting the ongoing incident in Liverpool city centre and working with other emergency responders to assess and manage the situation. Our priority is to provide medical care as quickly as possible to those affected.”
