Marking Biodiversity Day with a powerful message and a refreshingly casual look, Queen Mary shared a striking new photo on Thursday from the savanna of Cerrado in Brazil.
The 53-year-old Australian-born Danish royal was pictured gazing into the distance, embodying effortless elegance while wearing her most unexpected footwear of the year — a pair of chunky white sneakers.
The relaxed choice perfectly complemented her crisp white linen shirt, which she tucked into a flowing, earth-toned A-line skirt.
A tan leather belt cinched her waist, while simple gold jewelry added a subtle touch of sophistication. Her brunette hair cascaded in loose waves, and she sported her signature smokey eye makeup.
“Today, on Biodiversity Day, I remember how I was blown away by how ‘smart’ nature is,” the Queen wrote, reflecting on her visit six months prior to the world’s largest and most biodiverse savanna, the Cerrado. Her post included a series of breathtaking landscape shots from her trip.
As a patron of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Queen Mary highlighted the collaborative efforts between UNEP, local governments, and stakeholders to conserve biodiversity, promote sustainable use of resources, and combat climate change — all for the benefit of the Cerrado and other ecosystems across the globe.
