Donald Trump Jr has suggested he may one day pursue a run for the U.S. presidency, saying he feels “the calling is there” during a live appearance at the Qatar Economic Forum.
Speaking with Bloomberg’s Joumanna Nasr Bercetche on Wednesday, May 21, the 47-year-old son of former President Donald Trump responded to questions about a future White House bid. “It’s an honour to be asked and to see people respond positively,” he said. “So the answer is: I don’t know — maybe one day. That calling is there.”
Trump Jr, who serves as executive vice president of the Trump Organization, has never held public office but has played a key role in Republican politics behind the scenes. During his father’s administration, he was influential in staff decisions and was a strong advocate for Senator JD Vance’s selection as vice president in 2024 — a move that ultimately came to fruition.
A prominent voice in the MAGA movement, Trump Jr maintains a strong online presence and regularly weighs in on national issues. This week, he made headlines again by questioning the transparency of President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis, labeling it “another Democrat coverup.”
Speculation about the political future of the Trump family continues to swirl. Despite constitutional limits on presidential terms, former President Trump has hinted at a possible 2028 campaign, fueling talk of continued Trump influence in American politics. Betting markets have even begun placing odds on a potential Trump Jr candidacy, ranging from 12/1 to 33/1.
At the Doha forum, Trump Jr also defended his father’s trade policies, dismissing media concerns over tariff-related instability. “Much of the turbulence was overblown by media hysteria,” he said. “Change takes time.”
Elon Musk, a major Trump backer, also appeared at the forum a day earlier and announced he would be scaling back his political donations. Having contributed $288 million to the 2024 Trump campaign, Musk said he would now refocus on his business ventures, particularly Tesla.
