However, fresh tensions reportedly simmered beneath the surface, fueled by a revealing new interview given by the Duke of Sussex just days earlier.
In a BBC interview from California, Prince Harry shared his ongoing frustrations surrounding his royal security arrangements and spoke candidly about his strained relationship with his father, King Charles III.
“I don’t know how much longer my father has,” he said. “He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. It would be nice to reconcile.”
The timing of the interview—just three days before the royal family’s appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony—did little to ease ongoing divisions.
Despite the recent conclusion of Harry’s long-running legal battle with the Home Office over security, insiders suggest the possibility of reconciliation with his family now seems more remote than ever.
Referencing Harry’s remark that he had “forgiven” his father, brother, and stepmother for their “involvement” in his circumstances, a former friend commented to HELLO!: “He needs the world to forgive him. His family have never changed their stance, which is that he should not air these matters in public.”
An insider added bluntly: “There is zero trust. The family feels that private conversations with Harry are not possible.”
Even a source sympathetic to the Duke acknowledged the strain: “It’s taken its toll. He sees slights everywhere, picks battles with everyone, and that’s exhausting. You can’t live in permanent battle mode. He’s 40 years old—at some point, you have to stop fighting the world.”
In the same interview, Harry claimed that the King could have intervened in his security case and suggested the situation felt like an “establishment stitch-up.” He also appeared to allude to the tragic death of his mother, Princess Diana, stating that some seemed intent on letting “history repeat itself.”
While the Palace has not commented publicly on Harry’s remarks, royal aides made it clear the family would not be distracted from their duties. Their focus, they said, remained on honoring the courage and legacy of the wartime generation—a moment of national unity, despite ongoing personal divisions behind the scenes.
