A mother in Russia has been arrested after allegedly hiring a man to kill her 12-year-old daughter, reportedly because she was exhausted by the child’s “bad behaviour.”
Identified only as Svetlana, the 46-year-old woman was detained in the Chelyabinsk region after allegedly offering £930 to an acquaintance to drown her daughter in a nearby river, according to law enforcement officials.
Unbeknownst to Svetlana, her daughter was secretly listening from behind a door and overheard her mother’s chilling instructions. Svetlana reportedly cited a strained relationship with her daughter and said she was “tired” of their “constant arguments” and the girl’s behaviour as her reasons for the horrific plan.
Following the arrangement, Svetlana sent her daughter out of the house with the 36-year-old man named Andrey. According to reports, the girl was frightened during the walk, but Andrey reassured her, promising to protect her. Instead of carrying out the act, he hid the girl at his home and contacted the police.
The acquaintance told authorities that Svetlana had offered cash for the girl to be drowned in the Bolshaya Karaganka River.
Svetlana was arrested and now faces up to 15 years in prison for incitement to murder a minor if convicted. When questioned, she reportedly could not explain her actions. The girl has been placed into care along with her two siblings, aged 17 and six. The mother also has an 18-year-old daughter.
This shocking case follows another recent tragedy in Russia, where a 29-year-old mother was detained for allegedly killing three of her four children, including severing the head of her seven-month-old baby.
