British singer-songwriter Jessie J has revealed she’s been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. The 37-year-old artist made the announcement in a heartfelt post on Instagram, sharing her plan to undergo surgery following her upcoming performance at Capital’s Summertime Ball at London’s Wembley Stadium later this month.

“I was diagnosed with early breast cancer,” she wrote. “Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word ‘early’.”

With her signature candor and humor, Jessie added, “It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job. I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive tits and more music.”

Born Jessica Cornish, the “Price Tag” singer said she chose to go public with the diagnosis to help herself process the news and to connect with others going through similar struggles.

“I just wanted to be open and share it,” she said. “Selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard. I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me—with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I’m an open book.”

She also acknowledged the difficult reality of others facing the disease: “It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse—that’s the bit that kills me.”

Reflecting on the timing of her diagnosis, Jessie said, “It’s been mad but also beautiful. It’s given me an incredible perspective.”

“But honestly, I need to process it and talk about it… I need a hug. You’ve loved me through all my good and hard times. And I don’t want this to be any different.”

The news comes two years after Jessie welcomed her first child, a son named Sky Safir Cornish Colman, in 2023. Her pregnancy came after a miscarriage in late 2021—a loss she has spoken about publicly with courage and vulnerability.

Jessie’s fans and fellow artists have already begun flooding her social media with messages of love and support as she prepares for surgery and takes a step back to focus on her health.
