Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands has sustained a broken arm following a horse-riding accident, the Dutch royal palace has confirmed.
The 21-year-old royal was hospitalised after the fall, which prompted her mother, Queen Máxima, to leave a scheduled engagement early at the MIND Us Foundation at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague.
In an official statement, the palace said: “The Princess of Orange broke her upper arm today after falling from her horse. She will undergo surgery at the UMC Utrecht. More information will follow as soon as it becomes clear what the possible consequences are for official obligations and other agreements.”
First Serious Injury from Lifelong Hobby
A passionate equestrian since childhood, Princess Catharina-Amalia has long enjoyed horse riding as a personal hobby. This is believed to be the first time she has experienced a serious injury as a result of the sport.
Balancing Royal Life and University Studies
The Princess is currently studying Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics (PPLE) at the University of Amsterdam. Alongside her academic pursuits, she has gradually embraced a more public role, including attending state visits and official royal engagements.
Just weeks ago, she appeared alongside her younger sister, Princess Alexia, during King’s Day celebrations in April to mark the birthday of their father, King Willem-Alexander.
Royal Calendar Carries On
Despite the Princess’s injury, the royal household’s calendar for the week remains unchanged. Queen Máxima is scheduled to deliver the opening address at the Global Summit of the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF) and attend the CGAP conference on Wednesday.
King Willem-Alexander is also expected to continue with his engagements, including the openings of the Dr. HP Heineken Centre and the Holland Festival, which Queen Máxima will also attend.
The royal palace has assured the public that updates will be provided as more information becomes available regarding Princess Amalia’s recovery and potential adjustments to her schedule.
