Sir David Beckham has broken his silence in the wake of his son Brooklyn’s explosive Instagram post.
The star opened up that his children had ‘made mistakes’ on social media in an interview in Davos, where he is attending the World Economic Forum.
He said: ‘I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media . . . For the good and for the bad. What kids can access these days, it can be dangerous. But what I have found personally, especially with my kids as well, use it for the right reasons. I’ve been able to use my platform for my following, for UNICEF.
‘And it has been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on around the world for children. And I have tried to do the same with my children, to educate them. They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids.’
He added: ‘You sometimes have to let them make those mistakes as well.’
David was speaking on CNBC’s financial program Squawk Box in Davos. He had earlier refused to comment when asked about the row by Sky News.
It comes after Brooklyn launched an explosive attack on his family, accusing them of controlling him his entire life and ruining his wedding.
In the revealing six-page statement, he called out parents Sir David and Victoria for allegedly putting their brand (Brand Beckham) above him and wife Nicola. He claimed his mum humiliated him by dancing inappropriately during the couple’s first dance at their nuptials.
