Chelsea Handler has joined the choir berating Timothee Chalamet for bragging about himself during his Marty Supreme press tour.
The 30-year-old actor is being tipped for Oscars glory for the film, which was inspired by the life of a real underground ping-pong player in 1940s New York.
He raised eyebrows for his over-the-top appearances at events for the film, dressing in orange as a recurring motif and occasionally surrounding himself with men wearing huge masks to make their heads look like table tennis balls.
One viral interview saw Kylie Jenner’s boyfriend gushing over his own ‘committed top-of-the-line performances’ and hailing his work as ‘some top-level s***.’
He said as he showered compliments on his own work in an interview discussing Marty Supreme: ‘This is probably my best performance, you know, and it’s been like seven, eight years that I’ve been handing in really, really committed top-of-the-line performances.
‘And it’s important to say it out loud because the discipline and the work ethic I’m bringing to these things – I don’t want people to take it for granted. I don’t want to take it for granted. This is really some top-level s***.’
Now Handler, 50, has added her voice to the choir when podcast host Amanda Hirsch brought up the subject on an episode of her show Not Skinny But Not Fat.
Handler admitthat Chalamet was ‘a great actor’ but observed that ‘it’s hard to hear someone talk about how great they are at acting.’
Hirsch had raised the subject by asking her guest if she felt Chalamet was taking himself ‘too seriously,’ to which Handler replied: ‘It seemed so.
‘No, Leo wouldn’t do that,’ Handler agreed. ‘Leo is a movie star. He wouldn’t talk like that. I mean, that’s new. I haven’t heard any actor kind of talk like that.’
Last year, Chalamet also drew allegations of arrogance at Screen Actors Guild Awards, where won for the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown.
