A mother from Khayelitsha, Cape Town, has stabbed her 19-year-old son, saying she felt she had no choice after he allegedly attacked her and her children while under the influence of drugs.

The woman explained that she waited more than 12 hours for police assistance, but no help arrived.

The teenager, who reportedly started using crystal meth last year, became aggressive when his mother returned home from a night shift, leading to the confrontation that ended with her stabbing him.

Police have opened a preliminary case against the mother for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).

The incident has sparked mixed reactions, with many expressing sympathy and support for the mother’s difficult situation.
