In this week’s episode of A Right Royal Podcast, hosts Andrea Caamano and Emmy Griffiths explore how the royal family has evolved under King Charles’ “slimmed-down” monarchy—and whether Lady Louise Windsor might take on a more visible role, similar to Princess Eugenie.
Joined by HELLO!’s Royal Editor Emily Nash and royal commentator Robert Jobson, the conversation turned to the potential future of Lady Louise, 21, and her younger brother, James, Viscount Severn.
While speculation has swirled about whether Lady Louise might follow in her mother’s footsteps—Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, has become an increasingly active royal—Robert Jobson offered a more cautious perspective.
Public Role Unlikely, For Now
“I’m not so sure about that,” Jobson said when asked if Louise might step into a more central role. “Sophie presents a very queenly image and is now involved in military work. She was also extremely close to the late Duke of Edinburgh, which helps shape her public identity.”
But when it comes to Lady Louise, he believes the decision must come from her:
“The real question is whether her daughter actually wants to do it. I don’t get the impression that either her or Viscount Severn have much interest in a public-facing royal role—and that choice truly needs to come from them.”
Life in the Public Eye
Jobson also highlighted the weight such a commitment carries: “It’s a significant responsibility. Once you’re in the public eye, the scrutiny can be intense. Up until now, they’ve been very well shielded under the current royal setup, and bringing them into the spotlight now might prove difficult.”
While Lady Louise has occasionally joined the family at major public events—such as royal funerals, jubilees, and Christmas walks at Sandringham—she has largely remained out of the daily royal limelight.
Currently pursuing her studies and enjoying a relatively private life, any shift toward a formal royal role would require careful thought and, most importantly, personal willingness.
For now, it seems the door remains open—but only if Lady Louise chooses to walk through it.
