The British royal family came together at Westminster Abbey on Thursday to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a solemn thanksgiving service.
Among the senior royals in attendance were King Charles and Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and Princess Anne with her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence.
The service featured a national two-minute silence for reflection and remembrance, with King Charles laying a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior, followed by the Prince of Wales.
Despite the sombre tone of the occasion, a touching moment between Princess Anne and Duchess Sophie was captured inside the Abbey. The two were seen sharing a quiet, heartfelt exchange, with Sophie offering a soft smile during what appeared to be a brief but genuine catch-up between the royal women.
Princess Anne was elegantly dressed in a pale blue embroidered coat dress by Shibumi, adorned with delicate motifs of foliage, birds, and branches. She accessorized with a velvet navy clutch, a wide-brimmed blue-grey hat with floral accents, and classic pearl drop earrings paired with a matching necklace.
Duchess Sophie looked equally refined in a baby blue ‘Yahvi’ midi dress by Beulah, a royal favourite. The dress featured fluted sleeves, a gently flared skirt, and dainty side buttons. She completed her look with a coordinating saucer hat embellished with ruffles, powder blue heels, and a simple gold pendant.
The quiet exchange between the two women offered a rare, intimate glimpse of royal camaraderie during an otherwise formal and commemorative event.
