A tragic accident occurred in Ute, a community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, where a road grader reportedly crushed a mother and her child to death along the Olujewu-Igbatoro Road.
The identities of the victims have yet to be revealed, but it is believed they were struck by a grader owned by the local government. The construction vehicle was part of a road rehabilitation project in the area when it suffered a brake failure, leading to the fatal incident.
Police spokesperson, Mr. Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the event and said an investigation was underway.
The Chairman of Ose Local Government, Kolapo Ojo, expressed his condolences to the grieving family. In a statement titled “Ose Local Government Mourns Tragic Loss in Ute Community,” he expressed profound sorrow over the loss:
“It is with great sadness that I, Hon. Barr. Clement Kolapo Ojo, Chairman of Ose Local Government, address the people of Ute and the entire local government area regarding the tragic loss of a mother and her young child along the Olujewu-Igbatoro Road.
“The fatal accident, caused by a brake failure in a grader deployed for our rural development project, has left us all heartbroken. What was intended to improve infrastructure has instead resulted in an indescribable loss.
“A hardworking mother and her innocent child, who were simply going about their day, have had their lives tragically cut short. We feel deep sadness and regret as a government and as a community.
“Upon receiving the news, local government officials immediately visited the scene to offer condolences and stand with the family. This visit was a heartfelt act of compassion.
“I assure the community that we are thoroughly investigating the cause of the mechanical failure and reviewing safety protocols to prevent future incidents. The safety of our citizens is our top priority.
“We understand the immense pain this has caused, and we are committed to providing the necessary support to the grieving family, both emotionally and materially. Their sorrow is our collective sorrow.
